How to do accurate Bodyfat measurements

I was like you once before. Then I started to get on really well with my trainer, I had to make sure I was feeling good within myself before I took my top off for anyone besides my husband, and he knew that. Now I have no problems with walking around without my shirt on. I still have a lot of work to do before next summer.

I would suggest talking to your pharmacist. As many of these places will have sclaes out the back and can do you bf on them and you dont need to take off your clothes.

No offence but I get a little confused. You have the male symbol and a male user name, yet you talk about "my husband". Or have I got it all wrong.

No the scales are not very accurate. I would say it could be wrong about +-5% Although that is probably more accurate than self caliper testing.

A trainer at your local gym will have seen all sizes of people. They will be very professional and probably have seen larger. I guess its like comparing to seeing your dr and dropping your pants. Its nothing new to DRs.

Infact I presume your DR might be able to take your % although that's a pricey way of doing it.

Depends how accurate you wanna be. Scales will give you a rough idea if you wanna keep your shirt on.

mamatraining none of us here can say that we know how you feel as we are not you. SO I just wanted to share what I was feeling when I had mine done for the first time.

I went back to the gym last year, after 2 years away from it. I went for just over a month just doing cardio until I had enough courage to see a trainer. So I made my appt. Here I was a fat man with rolls going in to see this young man with muscles, shape and tone that I wanted. To get my assessment done. It turns out that I was 25% bf. When it came time to remove my shirt, I was shaking in my boots, I so did not want this man to see me without my shirt off. I did not like seeing myself with my shirt off. I did do it and he was so good about the whole thing.

To this day he is still my trainer and with his help I have managed to get myself down to 16.5%bf and I have also made big changes to my life. I now have a goal that I want to be able to go shirtless over summer.

So why have I shared this, I think that you need to find someone that you are comfortable with to take your bf and stick to them. There also comes a time that you just have to get over it and have it done by some one. \:D/

why is it so inaccurate to test your self with calipers, is it about getting the right consistency

It's a 2 handed job. 1 to grab the skinfold and the other to pinch with the calipers. Doing this yourself, you would not be able to test your bicep, tricep, scapular etc.
