DY is the Master of HIT. I have been following & using his form of training for years. Some variations but generally 2 warm up sets & 1 all out gut buster. Squeezing at the top, feeling the muscle connection, isolating the muscle by performing ROM just to target that muscle if possible & short rest breaks between sets. All his principles are old & good IMO. Cant be working tho cause I'm still small :pfft:

yea i had a go at his back workout today, felt great, had to fight the urge to do more, i did add 2 exisices in for traps, think next time i need to push it as hard as possible on the working set, i have always been a fan of slow controlled movements. will give his chest and bi's one a go tomorow, but i have to say im a bit ify about only doing 3 sets on my bi's :shock: 1 warm up 2 working.

yep pretty much train like this when bulking(Have only really been adding more sets and reps over the last year or so - good way to focus on strength and power.

Works on the principle of reaching absolute failure once on each exercise (4-5 times in a workout) - which makes for faster recovery and more frequency.

love it.

Extremely unique in his approach but undeniably works. I just wonder if 1 working set of deadlifts balls to the wall as most of us always do, is performed by him once a week? Or does he do morning and arvo workouts and so fits this in twice a week?

Holy cow that's all I do and we don't look anything like each other!

maybe your not going hard enough during that time :grin: joking mate the dude had great genetics and alot off knowledge and passion for the sport he found out what worked best for him and stuck with it and kicked everyones ass in the process

yea ive been reading into his old training routines, gana stick with this format of training for a couple of months and see what happens. the man was a beast, was just looking on his website. for $200us you can discuss your training with him for 1/2 an hour, i couldn't warrant spending that much money to speak to him, but if you are a big fan of his routines could be a invaluable half an hour

It's most effective for more advanced guys, just because it takes some time to be able to apply enough intensity to make it effective. I am a lower set guy most of the time but even Dorian cycled his intensity. By his own admission he says he should have backed off a little getting closer to contests than he may not have suffered all the injuries he did.

had a go at the chest & bi's yesterday, have to say my chest is sorer than its been in a long time, only 2 working sets to failure for bi's but they feeling like they had a good work out too. just find it weird having such sort intense workouts.

Its not a bad idea to extend his HIT one max set out a bit to avoid the same program becoming repetitive. We take it out to 2-3 warm up sets then 3 pyramiding up sets particularly in big muscle groups like legs & back. Its more the traditional method of increasing weights with one last all out gut buster to finish but then pulling back the intensity for subsequent exercises on the same body part.

He developed it from Mike Menzers training and its works well. It avoids alot of over training.

How long have you been training like that and are you getting good results ie good gains, strength etc

Yeah i followed alot of his training and nutrition with a few adaptions for a natural guy.

The book was more in depth and gave great basics.

I did 3 warm up sets though. 2sets per exercise.

Followed it for and still do it in cycles since 2001.

I was happy with the gains / developments especially as it got me a few national titles and a Mr NZ along the way :)

Be sure to cycle in a rest week every 6-8th week. Your muscles,joints and even nervous system will need a chance to recover/repair fully when training hard out. Do some moderate stress exercise like walking that week (out of the gym) so it refreshes you and get you hyped up to get back.
