so i have been cutting for 8 weeks now, and have lost about 9kg and kept my mass, so my diet is going fine. I have been loading up on carbs for breaky and then cutting them out after 10am, i haven't been having any after my work outs, but should i, should i have some dextrose ? (will this effect my fat burning.) i know its a must when trying to gain, but was just wondering if any of you guy take in carbs after workouts when cutting. just some thing thats never been that clear to me.

IMHO yes have carbs post workout when cutting. You have worked hard for that muscle so there is no point wasting it just for a cut. Personally I still go Breakfast, pre and post workout carbs wright up till my comp. But everybody is different so just assess how you are feeling, listen to your body and you will work out what is best.

cheers for that, i'm just trying to gradually lose body fat, i'm not competing so i guess i'm in no real rush, so if a insulin spike will slow down my fat burning a wee bit late afternoon, i don't think that would matter to much.

morning it's cup of mixed berry's ,banana, apple, cup of fresh OJ, protein blended. maybe a 1 piece of toast if i'm hungry as f*ck after cardio while making my smoothie.

tuna and rice salad for lunch, or tuna n 2 bits of super bread if i'm out and about.

sometimes for mid morn i'll have a fibre bar with my meal which has 10 carbs 5 sugar.

and thats it really, yesterday started having dextrose again 10 mins afterwork out, 30 -35 g with 10 bcaa and protein shake to follow 20 mins later as some one on here suggested

I don't have any carbs with my last meal of the day

works out to be about 125 135 carbs per day, i might crank up the dextrose another 10g's

without dex i have been losing fat at a good rate, and from what i can tell holding on to my mass really well, i take in some times up to 300g protein and about 45 - 55g fat, i don't think the dex is going to hinder my fat loss to much but guess i will see over the next few weeks.

sorry i do have a cup of oats in my smoothie also. when i say i have a bit of toast in the morning before hand, i mean maybe once or twice a week.

i mainly have rice for lunch, but if i can't i have 2 bits of bread. so i don't really have as much bread as i may have made you think.

There are a lot of variables but I would say definitely "NO". The reason for dextrose or high GI carbs post workout is for the anabolism caused from he insulin spike. Although insulin is very anabolic to muscle cells, it is also very anabolic to fat cells. If you are dieting for competition yo want to avoid any insulin spikes and yes it will effect you fat burning.

You should train a time that fits with your nutrition plan so that one of your meals falls at a time directly after you have finished training. This was a post workout calorie intake does not equate to an extra meal.

Sometimes I think people put too much emphasis on the post training shake or meal. When you are in a mass phase the post workout meal can be a very useful tool for growth but in pre-comp it is not necessary and can have a negative effect on your fat loss. Quality wholefood sources of protein and low GI carbohydrates take at least 4hrs to digest enough for the micro-nutrients to reach the places you need them most.

So if you are ingesting quality nutrition every 4hrs you always have micro-nutrients in circulation so the actual "need" for a post workout extra meal does not exist.

The only carbs you should ingest during a pre-comp phase are low GI carbs regardless of you training. The only carbs I have after 4pm are zero impact fibrous carbs.

Alot of very strong opinions on what you should and should not do Sifo. Out of interest can you please post up a reference I wouldn't mind having a read.

WL, do you still use glucose when trimming down?

Hey fella I don't use glucose or dextrose at any stage dieting or not. It's not my thing :)

I think you should ditch the bread in favour of a low glycemic choice. I know you said you are not competing and time is not an issue but don't be afraid to switch a couple of things around and try it out for a few weeks and reassess. Kumera home made oven chips are great and can be included in work lunches, add some tinned salmon or tuna with cottage cheese. You will find this is just as satisfying as a sandwich however, you won't get the insulin spike that comes with bread. Just my 2c.

some sound advice there, will give tuna and cottage cheese ago, i only eat that 'super bread' as they call it, which claims to be very low GI plus 17g protein 7g good fats per to 2 slicers, is this bread still not a very wise choice?
