weak left side

Since the beginning of the year I've incorporated more resistance training into my workouts. So far so good except that my left side (upper body) is way weaker than my right no matter what kind of exercises I do. i.e for my max weight when doing shoulder presses, I can easily do 6 reps on my right side, where as I struggle to go past 3 for my left hand side.

I guess my question is, do I keep perservering with the weight, or should I drop it until my left side catches up? Also, any tips on strengthening the left side? Thanks folks.

When you're doing some exercises, start off with the left side first. That way, you hit the most amount of reps you can with that side, and your stronger side will do it easy. Sure you won't gain much in your strong side, but you will in your weak side and once that catches up, you're away.

Ditto - its important to build up the weaker side first, if you try to keep the strength gains in your right side you may end up with an injury. You would be surprised how many clients I train who have had the same problem, takes time to correct and sometimes depending on the exercise it isn't so obvious. Plenty of dumbell and isolation work combined with compounds, and don't give up.
