Impressive first timers

Recommended Posts

I trained a mate of mine the other day who had never stepped foot into a gym before. 21 years old, 5'10, 80kg carrying a bit of a beer belly.

Got him dead lifting and he pulled 140kg for 5 reps with perfect form. I was impressed

Anyone else see any impressive lifts from first timers before?

shit that's pretty damn impressive, does he have a job that requires him to do a bit of labour or something? crazy to see someone do that on their first day without doing their back in

most of my mates that I take to the gym end up quitting after 1-2 weeks of being my workout partner, and no one ever did something to impress me apart from a guy who did dips with 30kg added to himself! (I thought it was sort of impressive for a first timer)

A mate mine (from West Africa) was already tank as to start with around 90kg and 10%bf and at 6ft.. never lifted a weight in his life, started lifting with one of the school teachers and got up to 108kg between 12-15% in under 6 months. Ate whatever he wanted and gained f all bodyfat.

I got told he was benching 60 odd kg the first session and in 3 months was repping 120  He is a freak of nature... only trains 1-2x a week because he gets way too muscly (he is a pro rugby player in France).. damn only if he used those genes for BBing or PLing

I remember thinking I was the man cos I could bench 100 when I was 14 for a single then meeting a guy same age as me who could single 140... in later years I trained with him and at 20 or 21 he benched 240 just to see if he could do it. Mind you he was 120 something kilos at that stage and just one mega unit!

I could barely do 100 for one now... THE f*ck!

A guy from the gym's brother deadlift 260kg first (and only) time in the gym apparently. Never done any training before, doesn't do any labour, sits at home playing xbox all day.

Sounds like you got some cool friends....

Guess it raises the question, whats more impressive the guy who lifts 260 without ever training or the guy who takes 10 years to go from 140 to 260? :?

Well i think it doesn't matter that who has never gone to gym and can't lift weight. In fact every thing is possible and it can easily be done in first attempt if you are already a strong enough person. But only that person can do it who is well prepared for this and can do it as a challenge.

 Thats insane. How old, what weight wookie?

Not sure, I believe in his 20's and after a bit of normal gym training.

I pulled 180 first time I tried deadlifting, age 16 after about 3 months in the gym. Then did 270 at 19 next time I deadlifted... but that was after a couple years of oly lifting. Decent, but found the squat easier.

There is a kid in the USA who just pulled 362.5 age 18 weighing 108, raw with a hook grip. But then he was hardly a freak when he started training, and has made consistent progress up till that point.
