Intermittent Fasting Diets

groovy

Recommended Posts

Up to this week I have trained fasted and depending on how much volume I had to do on a given day I had my 1st meal of the day between 2-3pm.

what time your last meal and what time you sleep and what time you get up?

Bro I am open minded as am interested to read more about this. I can't see it being part of my game plan but good on those who believe in it.

I head off to Maccas at 3 pm with JR for our pre workout feast. I have a big mac combo and he has his gay deluxe chicken thingy. Wicked pump lol. :pfft:

Feeding window is for 8 hours or so.

Last meal around 10-11. Go to bed around midnight or a bit later (Not a morning person :? ) Get up at 8 or so.

When I was doing it, my first meal was at 12pm, last meal at 8 - this suited because it was very nearly what I did anyway (just shifted breakfast back a couple of hours). I stayed pretty lean and continued to make steady strength gains on it.

Only reason I stopped it was I wanted to be able to eat whenever during my Smolov cycle, and not be restricted by any sort of diet (however unrestrictive the diet may be :pfft:). My squat sessions were at different times of the day, so sometimes my post workout meals needed to come earlier in the day than the fast window allowed.

I can see myself returning to it in future, but most likely after my Bledisbro buildup is finished with.

  • 3 months later...

Any body tried this diet? Or any type of intermittent fasting? The guy seems to know what hes talking about and his methodology looks like it's supported by legit research so was interested in what people thought of it?

Looking for a good cutting diet protocol. Might just stick with the tried and true typical contest prep cutting diet. But int. fasting claims that you are able to keep more mass than a conventional calorie deficit.

Yep, I tried it for a while with pretty good success, just felt I needed less restriction on eating times for my Powerlifting pursuits which is the only reason I stopped doing it.

Have been doing training mostly fasted for the last couple of months - well, actually almost the whole year! (not always for the recommended leangains-based 16hour period though), and am the strongest I've ever been... if I do eat before trainings, it's usually only one light meal, and 3-4hours beforehand, which does fit into one of the suggestions he offers for his approach.

Take from that what you will, but I think there is a lot of good ideas in it.

It's been discussed a few times on the boards:

Here and here are the main ones the search popped up

Awesome, thanks, should probably learn to use the search function lol. Looks like a goer to me, might have to become my new cutting protocol as I go to bed fairly late and don't always feel like eating breakfast anyways. I can imagine the first week or so is going to be tough though while your hormones shift to compensate. Have taken some before pics so will have to post progress shots at new years and give a good review on IF.

I've been on it for over a year and don't think I'll ever go back. I was able to lean bulk for 6 months and put on hardly any fat and got significantly stronger which I have never been able to do before without gaining a lot of fat. Also allowed me to get sub 10% bf in 8 weeks after the 6 month cut, previously I used to cut for 3 months or so and still not be that lean

I've used it to drop some fat last summer, slowly bulk through this year, and currently at the end of another cut now. I've only really followed the fasting guidelines, I don't follow his training recommendations, or cycle calories to the extent martin recommends. I have a small meal 1-2hrs pre-workout too, tried fasted training and didn't like it. My protein and fats are relatively constant, I just add more carbs to the PWO meal.

I find the fasting followed by large satisfying meals great for reducing hunger in a calorie deficit. This recent cut I've stuck to the fasts very strictly, previously I wouldn't be bothered if I broke it earlier or ate a bit later. This time I'd never eat before 16 hours fasting, and on rest days I'd often push it to 18-20hours with no worries. I've only lost 3.5kg over 9-10 weeks, but I think it looks like more. The last 2 weeks or so I've been pretty stable around 92kg, but continue looking leaner. I was hitting PBs too up until I injured my upper back, and have hit a few more PBs recently now it's mostly healed. I'll actually chuck some pics up either tomorrow night or the next, been meaning too for a while.

If you struggle to eat breakfast usually, this could become a more natural eating style for you. I was the same, never hungry yet always force feeding myself in the morning and feeling crap for it. Look forward to seeing how you go :)
