Turned the T.V. on at work when it first happened and channel 1 showed pictures of a dead person being pulled out of the rubble. Close up graphic images. Very poor from them.

Yeah, I'm not keen on some of the images of people suffering at a time of great distress. I wouldn't like to see any of my family on TV in that situation. To be fair to TV3 they said that a lot of what they showed this afternoon was virtually live and they'd not had a chance to edit, but I didn't see anything as distressing as a dead body though.

Hi guys, thanks for your kind wishes. Bloody big old house shook like crazy. We had a team of painters repairing last quake damage, only to have more cracks appear. Seriously thinking of jumping the ditch. Terrible shit going on in the city, thoughts and prayers are with those who are still searching for friends and family.

I work in a very large concrete building and that sucker shook like a concrete mixer.

It wasn't an aftershock - it was a quake. And it was huge and violent.

The CBD is rooted. Damn shame, feel bad for those stuck in the middle and extremely sorry for those who have lost someone.

Niece just moved into a 2 month old house and it's a write off. Way too much suffering will come out of this one.

it was an aftershock, every shake under the original quakes scale reading is technically an aftershock even if felt nastier. earthquake and aftershock are terms related to scale readings not depth or how bad it felt.

facts of the day.

i heard it was a new earthquake? just like the one one boxing day. Anyway, just got power back, still no water. Really wanted to go to the gym tonight even though....

Roads are stuffed, and liquification is a biatch

maybe duration could be a factor anyway it doesnt really matter i suppose somebody shoot me lol

My sister is usually mentally strong, yet she is wrecked from this quake. Not sure if she and the brother in law will stay after this. She works nights so was woken up with her bedroom windows shattering over her.

Liquifiers opened up across her street and trapped a car. There contents are screwed too.

People will be suffering from post traumatic stress after this one. :(

I think because there were no fatalities last time it made it easier for people to adjust to only loss of property. I was in a business conference today when it was announced.... was concerned but felt a pang when we were told people had been killed. If I was down there I'd be moving to Auckland next week ... shame really as CHCH is such a beautiful city.
