What is the difference between kumura and sweet potato?Alot of American and other bodybuilding sources refer to sweet potato as one of the go to sources of low g.i carbs, i have always used kumura here in N.Z and am curious to know how it stacks up.Thanks.

Kumara taste heaps nicer than the boring bland ass sweet potato they give us over here(sydney)! It's the same family but just a different texture and taste. The sweet potato they talk about in the states is the same as kumara, purple sweet potato.. see can someone send me some over here please... oh and some decent taro!

Who cares about glycaemic index? lol it's still slower release than regular potato but what's the big deal? Eat your carbs with some protein and a little fat and they all become low GI!

Actually, not necessarily true. Kumara has a GI of 77-78, and a boiled Nadine potato is 70. (Although a boiled Desiree is 101.)

Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas), boiled, comes in at a mere 44.

But whatever their GI, the golden kumara are yum.
