Looking to start weight lifting in Tauranga

Hey all.

I am a 47 year old male who is overweight and out of shape. I want to cure that and am looking for advice and if possible a workout buddy.

The main reason I am out of shape is that I don't enjoy working out and if left to my own devices would just sit in front of my computer or the TV. I feel that if I had somebody to work out with I would be more likely to stick with it.

I am not interested in competitions or even body building. I want to lose weight, decrease my body fat percentage, and feel better.

In the end I would rather look like Bruce Lee than Arnold Schwarzenegger but at my age I realize neither one is very likely.

Thanks for any advice you may be able to provide.

P.S. I am also thinking about a running regime of some sort.

Hey mate, welcome and good on you for posting.

You're never too old! There are some here that are going strong at around your age, anything can happen it will just take a lot of commitment

If you're after diet advice, chuck up what your current intake is like - as well as approx weight and height - and we'll have a browse over it. Diet is one thing that can be changed subtly (at least initially) to give good initial results.

As for running, if you are only just starting, something more low impact would probably suit better. Start with walking, building up frequency and length of the walks, until you begin to pick up the pace a bit.

What kind of weight training experience do you have? (if any)

At this point I don't want to change my diet too much. I already eat healthy (if a bit too much).

As of now I can't really run for a long time anyway so yea that's the way it's got to start.

I lifted some weights very long time ago when I was younger. I didn't do it for very long though because my circumstances changed.
