getting on the piss- how bad is it?

seems there are a lot of different opinions on this but how is several drinks (say about 6 standard drinks) on a saturday night going to affect my results if im trying to gain muscle and if my training/nutrition/recovery is spot on at all other times?

i did a bit of reading one study suggested it would lower my test levels 20%ish for 24 hours afterwards. am i right in assuming that because i train monday to friday it should have little negative impact in real terms?

just curious to see what others on here think..

dammit. I had a link one time as to the effects of drinking on weight lifting. Mentioned stuff about test levels etc etc. I don't quite remember it but I think a lot of it was saying how its a misconception of how bad the effects really are. I'll hunt around see if I can find it.

More importantly don't do stupid shit while out in the weekend

10 beers will lower test by 20+ percent, I'd consider that huge for a natural, and I know I've drunken more than ten beers when out getting rowdy, Do not even want to know what that would've done to my test levels. I think whats worse is the dehydration factor.

Don't forget a muscle takes ages to fully repair and you want test to increase protein synthesis throughout the whole process. Just don't kill yourself continuously, and its not gonna hold you back in the long term. Its good to get out :D

this might open up a debate.. but take an extacy pill or snort some shit itll be less detrimental on your training as alcohol

Didnt body builders used to take eckeys to help deep sleep?

yeah not sure... ill just ring every single bodybuilder in whole world and ask them all k?

back when i lived in the U.K before i got into the gym, i was a plump 113kg!! living and working in a pub.

after 12 months of hitting the clubs pretty much 2 - 3 times a week and a very constant amount of ecstasy in my system i got down to 92Kg and thats with no training or nutrition, clubbing is a mean combi 6hours of dancing like a nutter , Water water water, and un godly amounts of energy from the pills.

No brainer debate here guys. If you want to be the best / elite drinking and banging shit up your nose is a no-no. Huge amount of research being thrown at Rugby guys atm re: the detrimental effect of alcohol on recovery. The stuff I saw was quite convincing - maybe Natenemesis has some more info on this?

As for E's - no they don't help you sleep!!! They're a stimulant! You're probably thinking of Fantasy (GBL/GBH) which puts you into deep wave sleep in larger doses & increases GH levels.

Tom - Stims vs Alcohol, probably agree with you but stims tend to curb appetite so people may not eat for many hours and burn lots of cals = catabolic state. Also issues with electrolytes which may impact on subsequent training & possibly contribute to muscle tears (as would dehydration from alcohol I expect?).

As always for most people its a case of moderation, how important is your sport to you compared to your social life? Then work out what fits for you.

I'll stick to a few kava's every week or two! :nod:

Good input, totally agree that if you want to be elite then alcohol, drugs and late nights are gonna chop away at those chances.

If you train Monday to Friday and hit the piss Saturday then Monday's workout should be ok.

But I'd say you've wasted Thursday and Friday's workouts. You won't eat or rest as if you stayed home and looked after your meals and sleep. The recovery process takes a few days.

So you'll still be able to make gains but not as much as if you lived like a hermit.

It's a good life lesson this one and there's no single right answer...as said earlier by nate225 it's about balancing your needs with your wants and the consequences of that.

Ummmmm we have seen what happens with those that take high doses & try to live the recreational drug lifestyle..... the list is a pretty long one over the years with not too many happy endings.

Never been much of a drinker and haven't had a beer in 6 months. Can't say I feel like I'm missing anything either, then again I'm not the lets go get plastered in town type. Seems I can have a great time without alcohol. :nod:

thanks for the input nate and android. i guess your right il still be recovering from thurs/fridays workout and its a matter of weighing up whats more important and keeping it in moderation..

im not big on ectasy, acid etc only take them new years, bdays etc but im still pissed off the fun police banned bzp! it was a good safe legal buzz :evil:
