What is a cheat day and when do you have one?

Hi I am very new to bb and eating mostly portein so you can imagine I am finding it a little bit hard. I am ok most of the day but start to wonder if this the type of eating I will have to do forever to keep my body looking great.

I usually eat alot of bread, muesli, milk, icecream and fruit. So you can imagine eggs, meat, protein shakes, and vegies are a little different. In saying that I have never felt more alert and less sluggish in my life.

So i have seen posts that mention a cheat day, and was wondering about how when and why you have them.

Any replies would be great. By the way my muscles are absolutely killing me today after doing Taebo yest, and lifting concrete slabs for and hour into the trailer, so I feel pretty pleased with the soreness!!! I know they are in there under all that fat somewhere!!! :o

You can eat almost whatever you like.

Reasons for them is to keep you sane, and it shouldn't affect your performance, barely anyway. Because it isn't your "normal" and your body will virtually disregard anything that isn't normal. That's why if you go for 1 run you will basically gain nothing from it, to get results you need to make it your normal and do it often.

I have my cheat days everyday. Sorry but I'm young, but to be helpful. Once a week should be ok.

cheat day/meal for me is not sushi or kebab....wholey moley......i wouldnt call eating something thats already quite healthy a cheat unless your eating a heck of a lot of it.....

maybe if your trying to loose weight you dont want to go overboard.....why not try all that food you mentioned you usually eat (and miss i assume) and for one meal eat all you want....and eat real icecream too LOL

6 meals a day 7 days is 42 meals a week, one blowout keeps you sane

I prefer to call them 'reward meals" and I usually have mine on Saturday night. There is nothing nicer than dressing up and going out for dinner and enjoying what you eat without the guilt.

If I have trained hard all week and kept to a decent nutritional plan then I will reward myself with a good meal at the weekend. If I have missed a workout for whatever reason that the meal can wait for the next week.

Yeah I definitely wouldn't usually call it a cheat, but I eat about 15-18 pieces of sushi each time. As for the kebab, I have it smothered in sauces

Fish n Chips, noodles, pasta with heaps of cheese, sugary breakfast cereals, chocolate, crackers, coke, ice cream, burgers etc.

To be fair I do also have 150gm of whey protein a day, a litre of milk, 3-4 litres of water, some veges and fruit. Its a 50/50 diet I guess as eating too clean just means no size gains, strength gains for sure but no size for me.

i think abit of a nutrition plan and some consistency would work.

I use to eat like that legacy when I first started out. I got big but in reality I was just a fat c*nt lol. Now that ive cleaned up my diet Im making slow gains in bw and my strengths going up. I have a cheat meal every 10 days or so, and even then its probablly not really a cheat, just subway or something.

A cheat meal for me is unplanned, it happens when it happens.

e.g.

Just moved house Monday after work, and Tuesday had nothing to take to work...nothing, from a guy who cooks 1kg chicken every single freak'n day of his miserable life...oh i digress...so had BurgerKing Monday night and brought 'normal' food throughout the day on Tuesday. These become my cheat days and I can relax knowing it doesn't happen often. If I had 'planned' cheat meals I'd have been freaking out that I couldn't eat clean and large the last 2 days for sure.

Ohh and no gym Tuesday and Wednesday as a consequence, I refuse to go under prepared and undernourished (in terms of protein)...tosser I know...I know...

Last time I tried that cost me a fortune in food and got f*ck all gains, this time on my average diet I'm getting better gains, no noticeable fat increases. Each to their own. I'm sure once I get some size on I will need to tidy up the eating habits especially if I want to do a cut next year.

Bro a few cups of rice a day, kumara, oats, fish, chicken, beef etc is not expensive bro. If you get your meat at the right place (pak n save or mad butcher) you'll save lots and be surprised at how much it compares (less) than buying less clean food.

I find having cleaner cheat meals helps me to get back into my clean diet straight away afterwards. If I eat real high fat high sugar cheat meals I get a taste for it again and start craving it all the time. Takes about 4 days to break the cravings (if I manage not to give in) so its just easier having sushi or sumink. its still cheating coz it aint in my plan!!

I agree with Android as well with cheat meals being unplanned. Last night for example I was stuck in the Koru lounge at Auckland Airport with a delayed flight for several hours so my friend and I decided to take advantage of the complimentary bar and snacks. It had been a long day of meetings so why not.

My wife was not happy picking us up pissed from the airport but there you go. Today, however, back on the bus with 100% clean diet.

No cheats for me for a few weeks and a slight hangover today

I completely agree. If I have a massive dessert or something I'll want it for days so its best to steer clear of it.

I'll admit though, I've been 'clean' cheating a lot more often than I should these days! (3/4 times per week).
