Hi all,

Has anyone worked out at Burn24hr Fitness in Takapuna...

http://www.burnfitness.co.nz/location.html

If so what is it like?

I am looking for a no frills gym that is not to crowded where I can get the job done of getting to a gym working out without waiting in line for anything... even if it means rearranging my schedule going to the gym at night time.

Well Burn24hrs was a cool gym.

It is the sort of gym where you go to simply get the job done and get out.

Opened in October 2010 there seems to be plenty of room for working out. They said they would cap membership at 1000 and that they are at nearly 600 members now. Joining up is contract free and 12.90 a week.

All the equipment was really good... very well vented... one thing though was strange where the washrooms, showers and toilet were unisex

It is like one big rectangular room 1/3 cardio machines 1/3 weights and 1/3 stretching area kinda...

A nice touch is that your punchsupplement store is right down stairs and sells at 5% discount to members.

Pretty straight forward Gym. I liked it... they dont let you bring in your own trainer though if you have one... bummer...

Anyway that was the run down ... I liked the gym cause it was clear, clean and the ideal place for a serious muscle blaster like me 8)

Nice write-up Yenegh. Thanks for that.

Burn24 is run by the same guys as Punch Supplements, so when I was talking to them last year about sponsoring the Post/Photo of the Month competitions, I also got the inside word on the plans for the gym. Basically, they felt that many gym memberships were complete rip-offs (that's the polite version!) so they had some pretty solid ideas on how things should be done, particularly around membership and fees.

I've not seen the gym yet though, so it's interesting to hear your experiences. Sounds good, although if it's only 1/3 weights that surprises me. Do they have enough machines, etc, to get a good workout?

Hi Pseudonym,

The 1/3 estimation for weights is actually just the area that is purely weights... the 1/3 machine section is shared almost half and half with weight machines and cardio machines so really there is plenty of machinery for strength and resistance training... For the avid gym member that knows his/her routines inside and out and who has the metal focus... you can get a great workout and leave satisfied.

I am not sure what 1000 members will be like regarding member flow but at this stage I am not too fussed. I was there at peak hour and it seemed ok. Anyway, you can afford to have more people without the frills and fluffs I saw at Les Mills... :pfft:

I was impressed with the gym and it is my choice for when I sign up soon. I am just lookin' for a training partner... trying to talk my partner into joining with me so I have a someone to spot me and don't kill myself lol :)

So overall, this is a great gym I would recommend it to anyone.
