First Comp maybe...

I am after some help if possible. I am 46, 5'10, 61 kilos approx 20% bodyfat. I was thinking of competing in a figure class for the CNI's in October. I was wondering how much cardio I should be doing now or should I just be worried about building muscle? Any feedback would be great.

Ok my diet, porridge and a protein shake in the morning. tuna and cottage cheese for mid morning, chicken or steak for lunch, protein bar mid afternoon and salad and chicken/steak for dinner. A protein shake straight after training.

I train four days a week in ther afternoon, different body parts each day. I do up to an hours cardio in the morning either walking or on the bike.

Im not really up with the play on the comp your aiming for, perhaps someone else can chime in with regards to that. Strange none of the other ladies have said something yet.

Other than that what are your goals? Are you currently trying to lose more fat, do you have a solid muscle base already or are you looking to increase this first and then lose fat?

What is your bodies current trend? Are you currently losing fat, gaining muscle?

Hi bert58

Welcome to the forum, youve come to the right place for good advice.

It would be really helpful if you posted your diet in a little more detail i.e amounts. It looks pretty good though, but your carb intake looks pretty low if any at all? Since your body fat is at about 20% you have heaps of time to get it down. So i wouldnt be too worried anout the cardio at this stage (you need to use cardio as your fat burning weapon when your body fat is really low and you need to get that last bit off). Do you feel you need to build up more lean muscle mass, if so i would really be concentrating on that at the moment.

What's your training routine look like?

Let me know if we can help in anyway everyone here is always keen to

give ideas and advice.

Hey Bert - welcome

I'm looking at doing the Figure class for the WLG Champs in May (only ten weeks to go) and I agree with the others. At the moment you should actually be eating as much as possible and building muscle. I've just been through it all and don't worry about losing weight. I found I put on about 3 kgs but after starting dieting 6 weeks ago I'm now 4kg lighter.

Try not to eat starchy carbs at night (rice, potato, pasta etc) but definitely include more of these in your diet during the day now as they will give you the energy to weight train hard.

Most of us have posted a journal which we update regularly, so might be an idea for you to do the same then we can see your progress and offer any advice from there.

Hi Bert nice to have you along :D

I'm guessing that if you are 5"10 and only 61kg that you are pretty skinny? (forgive me for assuming). If this is the case then I would definitely be trying to increase lean muscle mass. Lots of lean protein, essential fats and complex carbohydrates (not sugars etc, except for straight after training)

Good luck!!! AND IF YOU NEED ADVICE WE ARE ONLY MORE THAN HAPPY TO PUT OUR 5 CENTS WORTH IN!!!

welcome bert58.

make sure your getting enough calories, and protien/fats as mentioned. RECORD EVERTHING YOU DO. this way if your not getting the results you want, you can make a change and find out what works for you. every physique is individual.
