waldo
Ex-cyclist to the rescue! Waxing is the easiest. The more you do it, the less it hurts, ingrown hairs etc. You have to follow the following regularly though: Wax, alcohol type wipe, moisturize, then no soap/sweat for 24 hours otherwise you can get infected follicles. NASTY!Daily you should also ex-foliate, and moisturize. It sounds REALLY gay, but pays dividends. Beware of veet type creams. They can sting like a mutha! markm
Thanks for the advice.Just not sure if I can bring myself to having my chest waxed, seems like it would be horrendously painful. Is there anywhere special in Auckland that does men without thinking we must be weird? poos_n_wees
bro, anyone get ingrown probs like me...whats the best thing to doto avoid ingrown hairssss - shave in the direction of hair growth. Your skin is softened by warm water, so you get a closer shave if you shave in the shower as well. Ingrown hairs usually sort themselves out after a while, but if youre in pain, you could always try exfoliating and plucking the suckers out.Don't ask how I know this. Pseudonym
Is there anywhere special in Auckland that does men without thinking we must be weird? Most places now, I think. As a "smooth" guy myself, it's naturally been a point of interest for me to see how many other guys are also hairless. After extensive research, I conclude that the answer is... Lots. There's absolutely no need to feel self-conscious.
markm
Hey Pseudo, I'm not sure if I'm reading your post right. The fact that you've got quotes around the word "smooth" are you implying that you (and 'Lots' of others) are naturally hairless, or your're hairless with the aid of wax or cream?? :? deegee
I dont hink too many men are naturaly hairless!! I have used some of that veet type stuff myself, left a nasty rash where it buned my skin and I only left it on for half trhe recommended time.I just use a razor to remove unwanted hair as it is cheap and effective
Paul
Daily you should also ex-foliate, and moisturize. Wynton
If your shaving long hair for the first time such as chest. I've found that using a beard trimmer first then razor and cream works quite well. Saves you from hacking your skin to peices trying to get through all the hair
markm
I appreciate that shaving's cheap, but if you've got a really hairy chest, aren't you just gonna have to do it a couple of times a week to avoid a stubbley chest??? Wynton
Well once you do it the first time yeah just do it a couple times a week.

It takes a real man to wax. :pfft: Alternatively, if you've got coarse dark hair and pale skin (and a disposable income!), you could be a good candidate for laser. Ash
I’m resurrecting an old thread here but I was wondering if anyone has actually tried laser hair removal? I’m quite keen on getting my back done but it’s horribly expensive and I’m not 100% convinced that it’s worth the cash unless the results are fantastic. Pseudonym
Rule #1: Don't expect complete hair removal with laser. It works on the law of diminishing returns, with each treatment killing 30% of the hairs. Divide by 3 for long enough, and you'll eventually get a very small number - but it's never going to reach zero. So provided that's your expectation from the outset, you should be ok.You're in Auckland, aren't you? Go and see Dr Ronald Goedeke at the North Shore Laser & Skin Care Centre (ph 479-8802). I think he charges for the inital consult (a lot of places don't) but his treatment prices are very reasonable. He's reputed to be the most experienced laser tech in the country, and I've certainly been very impressed with him. He's also got one of the most powerful lasers in the country.

Not that the legs were painfl!Sure buddy, whatever works for you. My back is so hairy, I think at least half my genetics must be from a Werewolf. I reckon tearing it all out would have to be less than fun.Anyway, I don't think there is enough wax in NZ to take care of my back :pfft:
bheeman
Hello Markm! Believe it or not, hair removal is a problem for female bodybuilders as well. Based on my experience, guys generally shave. Hair removal creams are usually not advisable. If you are preparing for a contest, a week before it actually happens, shave following the grain. Don't shave against the flow. If you have a family member ot a close friend, ask the to shave the back as its difficult to do it yourself. 2 days before the actual contest, shave again. Some do shave against the against this time to get a closer shave. Bear in mind you don't really have to get a close shave like your face so there is no need to actually shave against the grain. Judges sit several feet away from you so they won't be able to see the minute hair. Many folks make the mistake of shaving one day or even on the day of the contest. I don't advice it, because I have seen many competitors with blade cuts on stage. They can swell. If you shave earlier, the swelling goes down before the contest. Lastly, if you can stand the pain of waxing. I can think of nothing better than this. Hope this helps.
