INSPECTOR64
Hey guys and girls ive been thinking about it for awhile and wondered if doin sum boxing on my days off from working out is goin to affect me badly at all in any way? Ijust bought me a bag and thought it would be a good way to still get the heartbeat raised without lifting anything heavy...any thoughts would be apreciated. mrgeeky
boxing is really good for cardio, although if your serious about cardio, running is always the best way. Sparring is even harder for cardio. Gives you a hell of a good workout. But boxing and weights together is not easy. Not if you want to get serious about the boxing. If its only for fitness then yes, its a good way to help fitness. Would be a good idea to get your self a timer. You could start off with 3*1 minute rounds, then build up from there to 3 times 3 minute rounds etc. Lots of different boxing routines that you can use as well. 2.30 secs casual, the last 30 secs go hard out. Lots of other routines, just depends where you want to go with the boxing, do you want to get good at it, do you want good technique? Or is it basicaly just bash the bag for fitness and fun. Boxing/kickboxing fitnesss classes are another good way to go. Hope this helps some. cheers.
INSPECTOR64
Thankz for your response.Well as im just getting back into it i set the timer on the microwave for 20mins and go frm there, after getting warmed up i increase my tempo and smash the f*ck outa my bag working on combinations and speed work and then have quick rest as i need it.Basicly i do it for cardio and just to keep my self prepared for the unicspected(theres sum crazy fuckas out there).By the time im done im exhausted and the sweats just pissing off me which has got to be a good thing. Ringside Gym
Boxing is good cross training. For a free One Week Trial check out http://www.ringsidenz.com
Optimass
I used to incorporate into bootcamp training for clients - prefer it to running when I'm heavier.
RockHard
I have been training hard out for most of my life - used to play pretty high level rugby with professional training camps, etc... and nothing I have ever done before compares to the boxing I have done over the last 2 months. It's by far the best and most intense cardio I have ever done and I love it - it's so much more interesting than running, or cycling or x-training, but of course it can be a huge additional cost. If you want to try it - see if your local boxing gym has a boxing fitness class... many offer free trials too. It's amazing.

haakuturi
Gotta agree on boxing - I do a 40-min session with my PT every week and it's an amazing workout!Even if (like me), you're just hitting pads that the PT is holding and/or the vest. I love the vest - means I get to hit my PT =P
luv.me.oats
I reckon I'm going to give it a crack mid December for 2 weeks, no doubt alcohol consumption will get in the way of my normal weight training routine and affect my strength.I'll be heading to Ringside, something different and goodness knows I'll be needing to do extra cardio after all those mini puddings, fruit mince pies and the rest - oh the festive season

greemah
I tried boxing for cardio and my overhead press started going down. When I stopped it went back up. The boxing totally screwed the recovery of my overhead press
