Importing supplements

Do you guys usually import supps or buy local?

I regularly buy from trueprotein, but last time i decided to get Hot rox and LG 1 Methyl 1d from the US. Both got caught on customs and required to have a prescription :? I sort of knew methyl 1d was risky but Hot Rox is widelly sold on nz websites withouth any prescription! I wonder how they get it into the contry.

Anyway, any thoughts about this?

@ Waldo people shouldn't be judged harshly for wanting to save a few bucks on bringing in their own supp s, what r ya a retailer or something ? :pfft:

@ poster 1 id suggest putting a little more time into finding out on whats banned and whats not in this country , heaps of guys on this forum bring in bb supp s .... then again if you knowingly bring in something on the banned list your playing Russian roulette with your wallet really, you may win some you may loose some but id say now that customs have your name on database, they will check everything addressed to you from now on.

still i wouldnt let it put you off getting a bargain !!!

Here are my thoughts on the matter:

1) That'll learn you for not buying local.

2) HotRox now have Yohimbe in them which is a prescription only med in NZ. That's why they got stopped.

I do agree on supporting local, and I do get most of my stuff from NZ. But some of the pricess put me off, even after converting to NZ$, paying fast and expensive shipping fees, the price is sometimes still way lower than here. I dont get how some products equate, when they are the same price on the US, here some are way more expensive than others.

No I'm not a retailer...but have had a wee bit of experience with them...!

As far as I am aware, a number of US based supplement companies have two price lists, US based and International. There are sometimes big differences between the two.

I guess there is a caveat here (let the buyer beware): If you order from overseas, make sure you know what is and what isn't allowed to be imported, otherwise you may lose your money.

i also support local , but only if i get a better deal , my wife got some hydroxycut hardcore caps (120) x 4 packs $215 nz inc shipping , an example from a nz site, punchsupplements one bottle = $114. gee add that up x4 is $456

youd have to be an idiot or very naive to pay those rates, at the end of the day it pays to shop around, nz is a small market with a relatively small buying capacity , the u.s supps industry as you know is huge , so why not take advantage of their very competitive market, its a win win situation .

Is there any website to check for aproved supps? I've been getting BCAA's and some bulk aminos before without any probs. I've seen on a faq page of customs you should check with Ministry of Health before importing BB supps.

There would be nothing wrong with importing basic protein powder would there? Any problems with your standard multi vitamins and creatine? Because it is A LOT cheaper overseas even if you do add expensive shipping, i can get the same $150 batch of protein (dymatize elite) from bodybuilding.com for $94 dollars + shipping. Thats pretty cheap to me. Every dollar counts when your a student aswell..

I considered that, but the shipping would be too expensive. If you want to save $$ on whey, get a 20kg bag from Davis trading. You can buy some flavouring powders from trueprotein.com if you want some taste, or just plain chocolate powder.
