Filtering gear

Clueless

Recommended Posts

I need to refilter about 4 vials. Is there a better option than the wheel filters (from needle exchange and 10ml syringe). Its so damn slow and had 2 of them pop the seals from my impatience lol. Have heard can use a hand vacumn pump that bleeds brakes and option of using caulking gun. Any one got any tips

ok for small amounts i have a vaccum pump that pulls about 10 bar i still hook up the syringe filter  right into the vial and insert a second pin beside it with the vacuum pump attached and righ a thick rubber band on the plunger of the 10 ml syringe. stand trhe assemmbly ina tall glass turn on the vacuum pump and the go watch tv for 40 mins - vaccuum pin needs to be short so it wont suck any product up as it gets to the end.

For large amounts disposable 250ml filters hoook up to same pump and fitre right into a media flask - then you can sit it for a few days to bhe sure it doesnt crahs prior to putting into vials

If your gear has EO in it use 2 wheel filters and swap em half way you will lose a bit of gear in the filter but EO chews out filters fast unless you get the right ones and im not sure that you can get the right ones from ADIO. the large 250ml filters will only filter about 100ml before the EO eats out the filter.

working on a sterilisation protocol for prefiltering oil and product and just adding heat sterilised EO not sure how it will be with some micro debris in the mix but there should be no live bacteria in it at least.

22micro meters is best  too btw smaller than the smallest known bacteria - (40micrometers)

I think you mean 0.2 micrometers not 22.

As for OP question i got heaps of tips and its easy to do up to a few hundred ml with wheel filters in under an hour with minimal wastage but cbf sharing them. theres better ways anyway.

PVDF filters are ok for EO

If you're making under 50ml I'd just start with a 10m syringe and switch to smaller when it becomes too slow, In my earlier days I used a cawking gun but you end up loading too much pressure, better to just switch down to a 2ml.. takes longer but less pressure required. If you're in this for the long haul better to get a proper setup.
