OK, thanks guys... I'll probably be changing to a new web hosting company soon, since I haven't been too impressed with either the service or support from our current host. Hopefully, the new one will be better.

There's a few things to nut out beforehand, but all going well, I may make the transfer tonight. If I do, the site will be down for a couple of hours, but I'll wait until late tonight so hopefully no-one's inconvenienced too much.

Nope... It'll be exactly the same software/files/database. The only change is the computer dishing them out to you will be different (and hopefully faster and more reliable).

But it doesn't look like I'll be doing it tonight anyway... I have a few questions that need to be answered first, but it seems no-one's available at the moment. (I deliberately left contacting them until now because I wanted to test their 24-hour support! :P)

I don't think you'll notice much of a difference in everyday speed (although it's possible - let me know!). It's more that you won't notice it slowing down to an unbearable crawl so much, or being offline. Touch wood...

The transfer's done, but it takes a while for the domain name to change, so you may notice we have a funny address. Don't worry, it should resolve itself in a few hours. Touch wood... :grin:

Grrr... The trouble is, we can't work out what's causing it...

Bookmark this for easy access later (in Internet Explorer, right-click the link and select Add to Favourites). When the site slows down next, got to your Favourites and start downloading it - when prompted, click Save. Wait until the download speed stabilises (the speed will often bounce around for the first minute or so). Take note of how fast it goes. You don't need to download the entire thing - just enough to get a speed reading.

Then, just to prove it's the website and not your internet connection that's slow, it would be great if you could do the same again for this file: http://www.pctools.com/downloads/sdsetup.exe (4.5Mb)

(In fact, you might want to let this one download fully - it's Spyware Doctor... a spyware removal and protection tool, which is always handy! :))

BTW Bleat, I did get them to fix the server clock, but it looks like it's fast again. I shall write another letter... :wink:
