it seems to me that i always get sick twice a year...and this happens when we have the change in temperature...and it is now. Im on a good diet and get plenty of greens&veg also suplement with multi's and c's but somehow i stil get sick. Now im sick of being sick, i cant work properly, feel like crap and most anoing is: i cant train!! and i dont feel like eating, the only thing im in the mood for is......nothing and spending time on NZBB. I had the cold last week and then i felt better by Saturday went to the gym on Monday and guess what...Tuesday morning hello hello it is back twice as bad...propably not the smartest thing to have trained on Monday and i get frustrated to think i might have to take two more weeks off just to get over it properly....do any of you know what i can do in the mean time to keep building and show some form of progress.

Cheers

Harden up! I have worked and trained through colds and flu's for over 10 years on and off. Get plenty of rest and eat well, keep other activities to a minimum and you will get through. Wouldn't waste my money at the doctor.

Terrible advice. You may need anti biotics to knock what you have on the head. I have had the flu for a week now I can't think of anything worse for it than a grueling workout

Each to their own AO. I would only use antibiotics as a last resort.

has your bodyweight increase or decrease alot recently? or is it an annual thing just getting sick? is your house warm and well insulated? old, dusty? Do you work with animals, or with a lot of people? Should proli see a doctor. Then again I think a cold once in a while is unavoidable.

Keep Warm!

If you think you are sick more/worse than the average person it may be good to see a doc.

Tried lemsip? I find it helps with colds. Also sleep is the most important thing if you are sick as your body recovers best during sleep.

Also if you plan to train through it, up your cals a bit since your body needs energy to fight the sickness

Training while sick isn't smart, resistance training damages tissue which puts strain on the bodies immune response. If you have a virus and you train hard while sick it's a double whammy you're basically beating yourself while you are already down. That said everyones different some people might have the vitality to handle training while sick who knows. I can imagine some people training with mild colds, I can't imagine anyone who has influenza training though it anyone who has had it knows training with a 39-40C temperature just isn't going to happen.

My advice to you is to stay warm, wear track suit pants and a hoodie to the gym once you are warmed up take the hoodie off so you don't drench it in sweat then put it back on before you leave to stay warm, don't let yourself get cold. It's pretty obvious the common cold is more easily spread during the winter months and the main variable is the temperature.

thanks for all advice...i agree that training while being sick is not a smart thing to do for obvious reasons and that is why i tend to take it easy or just take a break, but it is stil pretty disruptive specially if it is not getting better, now im not a sicko who is sick all the time but do get it one or twice a year at the time when the temperature is changing, i came to discover that it also happen when im really hitting my straps hard.

So i just got back from the doctor and, i do not have a cold or the flue but an invection in my nose/throut, he gave me some antibiotics so happy i gone to the doc, also according to our doc, the fitter and healthier you are the easier you will get the bug/flue or get a virus, this s because of the chemical change in your white blood cells...bla bla bla i did not get the rest but assume he knows what he is talking about, this will explain why i do seems to get sicker then the lazy fatty next to me at the od ocation.....any off you more info on this??

Always follow your gut feelings when sick. If you feel ok, keep doing whta you are doing, but if you don't, then stay away from training.

The old 'Harden the f*ck up' has no place in this discussion.

Albundy, great post. repped.

^^this

take a jumper or somthing with you, keep it on till you warmed up then take it off or just leave it on.when you finish trainig take sweaty clothes off put the jumper back on.cool down with bit of walking on treadmill and then step out of gym.

I used to get sick with the change of season but not anymore.precaution is the best thing

Dude, twice a year sounds like shit all. It isn't bad to take a week off, get some some anti biotics and rest up. The more time you spend recovering, the faster you get back into full strength AND you can work. Seriously, don't try and tough it out because then that just takes unnecessary time and you can get other people at the gym sick too.

Mate...twice a year? I wish! Ive had five colds in 3 months. Or one really long one which varied intensisty for 3 months. I have pretty weak immunity though from diabetes. The best thing thats helped me it seems is regular ecinasia (spelling?) tablets. I already take multi vits and have a good diet, but since introducing these tablets into my morning choke fest, I've been doing much better.

Worth a go!

I'd be inclined to agree with AO. Not so much with the antibiotics, only take if you have to.

Definately take a break.

Legacy, training through colds and flus for over 10 years, I guess this is how you've achieved such an impressive physique like the one in your avatar?

Why do people believe anti biotics should be last resort ? Srs q

Personally, I prefer my own body to fight it so that it produces it's own anti bodies and therefore resistance although not sure how real this effect is. Not sure how other feel about it

Antibiotics wouldn't be so bad if everyone took their full course. Tards stopping when they start feeling better is what has made harder to kill strains develop.

Nothing like a course every couple of years. Cleans the pipes.

But people are also quick to be hypercondriacs... and hang out at A&E as well.

im goint take next week off aswell, just to make sure my anitbodies/imune system have build up properly...that will make it 3 weeks off training...brrrr but that is an important lesson that if learned and will write that one on the wall, next time il look better after myself with the cold and not train at all even if i feel better, one or two weeks is better then three weeks off. I will also invest in some warmer gym gear for before/after care....this brings another thing i was wandering about i tend to enjoy a sauna after training and shower...i know that sauna is not ecensial but a comodity...shower is a must :D for some uf us anyway, but the point is: is it beneficial at all as far as bodybuilding goes, also with a warm body after training then into the sauna then into a shower and etc..all this temperatute changing i wander if this is not helping to get the cold aswell???
