nate225
Had a wee slip on some stairs....goodbye both quad tendons, one after the other! Sounded like towels ripping, then quads spasmed & rolled up the legs! Not the most pleasant thing I've ever done, especially as it took 15 mins for anyone to help me, then 90 minutes for the ambulance!Ambo & hospital staff were awesome and surgery followed the next day. Prognosis is 3 months to walk without splints and 12 months to train legs properly! All good tho, I might do physique class or bench only powerlifting! :-)
Skeletor
Oh shit. Good luck with the recovery Nate . I had to take a year off training legs after a fall to but came back even stronger.
Boosting
How did slipping on stairs cause that? More details pls
nate225
Was sober driver.....fail as the ambulance ended up driving us! Hugh - was turning 180 degrees around a handrail and stepped on top step. Slipped on the carpet and weight went over left leg (knee anterior drift over toes) & tendon tore, fell and grabbed handrail but as left leg was completely useless the weight transferred to right knee and basically repeated. Boosting
Fucking nasty. How painful was it? Like i mean was it as painful as it sounds or are there f*ck all nerves affected or adrenaline taking over etc
nate225
Sounded fucken horrible, hurt like a motherfucker initially (like 8/10) but then I hit the fetal position holding knees against my chest and it subsided after 15 minutes or so to a heavy ache.Post surgery pretty sore, hence 20mg long acting morphine sulphate, 30mg fast acting morphine sulphate, 150mg tramadol and 4000mg of paracetamol a day for first 2 weeks!!!! Prognosis is 3 months to walk without splints and 12 months to train legs properly! All good tho, I might do physique class or bench only powerlifting! :-) Poor sod... Exactly the same thing happened to me 3 years ago.. had surgery spent 6 weeks learning to walk, then the same thing happened again, because the physio gave me the wrong size callipers (same as yours)..!!!! At the same time adjusting them in 30 degree increments from 30 to 60 (which was far too much)... Looking at your leg callipers there are 3 supportive bands across your lower legs (below knees) but only 2 bands across your quads (this is the problem).. As your quads shrink there will be less volume to support the upper portion of your legs, and as you walk around they tend to slip downwards becoming loose, it is at this point you are no longer able to rely on the callipers supporting your upper legs, this combined with the physio adjusting in 30 degree increments is too much for your tendons that are not fully healed, and can rip back off the bone if you wobble backwards... (this is what happened to me)... Once this happens your tendons are like mush and very difficult to re-attach.. They discussed amputation with me..!!  What I would insist on before leaving hospital, is they supply you with callipers with 3 lower bands and 3 upper bands... This way your upper legs will be better supported as your quads shrink, and you start adjusting the callipers to stretch the tendons.... One other thing, 30 degrees is far too much for you as far as adjustment is concerned... After the second tear, I refused to follow 30 degrees, but did only 10 degrees and only adjusted by another 10 when the tightness subsided, this works better the more you get up and walk around, I had a zimmer frame to start with the progressed to crutches... Have you considered GHRP-2 or 6 with Mod GRF 1-23.. I've a friend in London uses it on his clients with some success... FellowshipOfTheRon
Pseudonym
Blimey... just when you thought it couldn't get any worse! Â Nate, do you think there were any contributing factors here that caused this to be worse than it might otherwise have been? Eg, having previously tight quads, or any supps that made muscles/tendons/whatever less pliable and more brittle? Or is a bilateral quad tendon rupture just what happens in a freak accident? nate225
Daz - I now have 30 degrees flexion but only to use for exercises when laying on stomach, (like a leg curl), but all weight bearing is zero flexion for 3 months. I showed the specialist TB500 but he said because it acts as an anti inflammatory fashion and prevents adhesion I'd be silly to use it as this is needed in healing phase (first 3 months). Have considered using it or just HGH after the 3 months though.Peso - another friend (125 kg bodybuilder) did his patella tendons 2 weeks after me, when trying to break up a fight. Said he changed direction rapidly and just dropped. My friend did it about 10 years ago squatting, Savikas and Philipi both did theirs (quad or patella) in Strongman.I reckon pre existing injury must play a role with tendons becoming less pliable (I had existing tendonitis). Specialist however said it's very uncommon except in 2 parts of population, the elderly and athletes on PEDs (due to cross sectional area of musculo-tendon unit not being as strong as it would be in natural athletes, ie power output high but integrity of unit not there in same proportions). (Waikato Hospital)..!! I've spoken with a mate about hGH, IGF-1, and TB500 he's used all on clients without success... But he did recommend GHRP2 + GRF 1-29... I am using Saizen hGH at the moment as I'm back home.. bit late.. I also had a previous injury to R-patella tendon (2005)..  Long term PED use has recently given me cause for concern regarding constant tears to skeletal muscle over the years, as well as the negative effects to cardiovascular health.. Just up to 90kg for 8's; but it's fantastic to be back!!!  Now to be patient and cautious and not rip them both off again! Daz69, Optimass and Pseudonym

Daz69
Just to update.. recently had surgery on tricep tendon rupture.. Thats to add to 4 bilateral quad, and 3 pec ruptures.. Gettin old sucks.. Apparently according to surgeon any steroid (glucocorticoids included) disrupts the balance of collagen in tendon leading to weakness and potential rupture.
