Creatine and Pre Trainers. How bad are they for you?

So I was at the Dr today for my anxiety and he asked me ( because I must look like I lift ) if I have been using any creatine or supplements. I said I hadn't used creatine for a good while but he proceeded to lecture me about how bad it actually is for your body and to make sure I don't touch it. That and he also told me to skip protein powders as you can't be sure what they have in them. Now I know I definitely get problems off a lot of pre trainers with my heart racing and not eating or sleeping and can see where creatine may be an issue in consistent dosing but protein powder? He told me to stop even using that. What's your guys thoughts on long term affects on the body from pre trainers and creatine. Dangerous or all a myth? I don't use either but occasionally if I'm super shot a pre trainer just once. Just got a full tub of my fusion so not stopping using that.

Yeah, the point a doc tells me not to take protein powder is the point I start questioning everything else he's said!

He may be right in the sense that some dodgy protein brand may have stuff that's not listed on the ingredients, but that's the exception. By and large I don't think there's a problem.

What was his beef with creatine?

My thoughts exactly on the protein. He was rambling on something about kidney and liver function with creatine and something about kidney disease but I wasn't listening because i was getting anxiety at him going on and I don't use creatine anymore anyway . I know I've had sevefeel diarrhea from creatine a few times but that was it. I don't think pre trainers are good at all but I'm not throwing out my tub of protein .

Last week I asked my doctor if I could have my testosterone levels checked.. He said- short answer:NO. Long answer :NO. I asked why not? And he said you have facial hair and a deep voice goodbye $38

lol seems legit - voice and facial hair is totally scientific - but for the record i had a test level of 6 where the normal range was supposed to be between 11 and 30 and i have the deep voice and facial hair so ur doctor is a tard im afraid - shouldnt have paid the 38 bucks either with bullshit advice like that

Did they do anything about your test being so low?

Was he a GP, psychologist, or psychiatrist?

I used to be a long time anxiety disorder sufferer and went through extensive treatment. What I've found is that caffeine, which is excessive in many pre-workout, fat-burner, and even some protein products (those claim to not only supplement protine but also burn fat and improve energy level...), is not good for anxiety.

Some pre-workout and fat-burners change some users' mood as well.

However, lifting improves general health, gets you out of the house, gets you socialised (if you make friends at gym), and improve self esteem, which are all good for reducing anxiery :pfft:

Yes creatine is very bad for your body, hence why your kidneys, liver and pancreas produce it from the protein you eat so your body secretely poisons you whilst you're sleeping. And whey protein is very bad for you, it's full of all sorts of nasty amino acids like BCAA's and glutamine (POISON!), and immune boosting lactoferrin and immunoglobulins - plus any sort of protein aids creatine production so it's like some sort of evil double edged sword right there.

Stick to sitting on the couch eating healthy "baked not fried" crackers, and weetbix, and drinking bottled water and diet soda, while chewing sugar free gum, as that's much better for you.

TBH If you've got anxiety bad enough that you need to see a doctor about it, you're not doing yourself any favours using a preworkout full of stims and caffeine.

Creatine is showing poisitive results as an antidepressant when used with SSRI's http://www.longecity.org/forum/topic/72920-augmentation-of-ssris-antidepressants-with-creatine/

and also by itself http://biopsychiatry.com/creatine-antidepressant.htm
