GPC Auckland 3 Lift

Recommended Posts

This is the final qualifier for GPC nationals in 4 weeks and will be a great show!

We will have a flight of bench only lifters as well as a flight of female and a flight of male lifters.

I'm anticipating a huge total from big Daniel Holliday finally. And I will hopefully top my nationals effort from last year. We should have a good showdown.

We also have the light weight wild horse Nicholas Fegan who currently sits at number 10 on the all time list wanting to make a charge up the ranks too.

It's not too late to enter as well so if you're on the fence take the plunge and do it!

We are looking around 30-35 competitors at this stage depending on late entries and pull outs

Flight A squats will start at 10am sharp (Women)

Flight B squats will start around 10:45 (Men)

I imagine Benching will commence at around lunchtime

We had similar numbers at the Christchurch Champs a couple of weeks ago and we were all done by 3pm.  Our spot load team is on the money!  Realtalk is going to be working up a sweat haha

I'll let Hamish give the review and write up of the Comp as I feel he deserves the right, but just want to say wow what an awesome day. Congrats to everyone who competed was fantastic all round, I give my special congratulations to Hamish on being the first gpc nz member to have elite level status as far as total goes. The elite bench mark is 855kg for u125 class, Hamish lifted 865kg today. That is a huge milestone and achievement becoming an elite level powerlifter. 7/9 lifts and weighing less than 5kg off the u110 class means there is huge potential there to get both lighter and stronger which ever way he chooses to go. Well done to everyone but I thought that deserved special mention.

Well said, Tom. Unfortunately, I could only stay for the benching, but it was a great event all right. Cool to see so many Gymnation members there too!

When I was told about Hamish's 355kg squat, I didn't realise its significance at first. "Good numbers," I told him. "That a personal best?" Turns out it's not just a personal best, but actually a New Zealand best too. Ooops! :pfft:

So huge congrats to Hamish, both for the lifting and the organising.

Thanks Andrew and Tom, I was over the moon with my 865kg total and knowing theres plenty more in the tank Nationals looks like it will be very interesting!  Think I'll take a ridiculous squat for a ride on my 3rd attempt because why the hell not haha.  Big squat aside I was just stoked to finally get that bloody 300kg dead in comp Ive been lacking for way too long haha.

I was kind of obligated to carry on the tradition of having at least one 300kg+ deadlift at every single GPC comp running back to Nationals last year.

Was great to see all the forum guys out there competing and supporting yesterday!  Really appreciate it!

Here are the results

Dhiren put in a solid effort in the 72.5kg class as did Nick Fegan in the 100s who will cut weight to make the u90s for nats

It was great to see Travis Oconnell hit 700 at his first comp hardly breaking a sweat.  He will be hungry for much more next comp.

Court Paapu landed a huge bench making her only the 3rd currently competing NZ female hitting triple digits with Cathy Millen and Kate Mitchell.

Harshi hitting 410kg total putting her in the exclusive 400+ total club.

Mark Mete finally earning his 200kg bench club shirt was pretty awesome too see too.

Refs were top notch, lifters had fun.  Great comp!  See you all in 4 weeks
