Realtalk
Not going to happen. As much as people moan and groan the bigger and leaner the better people want to see that shit. If Arnold feels that strongly about it maybe he should judge his own show. People have been saying this shit for years and all of a sudden Arnold says it and everyone thinks it's an awesome idea.... Seems pretty retarded and sheepish to me.
Cameron_R
I agree with Arnold, but I don't see how it could work without turning into a beauty contest. I think that top level BB'ing has turned into a freak show that has pushed it into a fringe sport. It is now considered to be more like a fetish than a sport. Arnold is a smart business man and he can see that if the sport keeps going that way, it's bad for business because it will mean fewer and fewer followers/customers. Like I said though, not sure how to fix it without turning the sport into a beauty contest - how big is too big, and what shape is worth more points than the other body shapes?I
maccaz
imo this can be sorted with classes, maybe more emphasis should be given on the classic look/whatever those classes are called, for people that like to watch those, just like olympia has the 205s or whatever. imo bigger the better, if cost is some gut etc all good, i like to watch the freaks, much more impressive

nate225
Pretty simple really, and they've done it before with temporary success, just mark down on bloated mid sections.People whinged about this at one show I watched and said the overall shouldn't have won, but reality was he was clearly first in both mass & conditioning, leaving only the symmetry round. Therefore assuming he didn't place dead last in this all judges would've had him scored first overall. If, like the IFBB did at one point in early 2000's, competitors were warned that judges had been instructed to mark athletes down for excessive waistlines, the outcome would have been different and athletes would have to reign the guts in. Talking about wearing a belt whenever doing any exercise to reduce core involvement and try keep it down, makes sense but obv not going to help if the bloat is caused by drugs

HarryB
Lots of people are buying into the belt wearing shenanigans. Seems the latest rage over her with all the female competitors. Kind of amusing really but hey if you wanna wear a belt doing all your exercises who am I to say anything. I just tie my drawstring up extra tight and hope it helps reduce my waist. nate225
What is the cause of that 'fat gut' look?Maccaz mentioned drugs? No one is really sure, theories range from HGH causing organ growth, viseral fat being high despite low subcutaneous fat levels, bulking too hard in off season etc etc.Who knows may even be different causes for different individuals? Pseudonym
this makes sense.I watched a doco about some bber a year ago or so, can't remember who, one of the top few olympia. Talking about wearing a belt whenever doing any exercise to reduce core involvement and try keep it down, makes sense but obv not going to help if the bloat is caused by drugsActually, I think using less core will make the problem worse. IMO the most likely cause is that while pro bodybuilders are big on crunches and exercises that develop the rectus abdominis, obliques, serratus - anything they can see - they're probably not so big on working the transverse abdominis with planks and stomach vacuums. That's the stabilising muscle, and it's the one that holds everything in. EDIT: As per this article - Building abs from the inside out
FUBU
Arnold's just being a jellyfish. Because bodybuilders are 2x the size of him, when he was in his prime. He is the one that shaped bodybuilding into what it is today. He should be encouraging bodybuilders to get bigger. Hoping I'm not off topic this time
FUBU
What is the cause of that 'fat gut' look?Maccaz mentioned drugs? It's called a food baby. You know when you eat too much and you still keep eating no matter what. I should know, I've got one right now.

yeelang
Pretty sure the gut is due to pre-stage insulin, carbs just my opinion though
Skeletor
Yeah the guts ruin it big time. Takes away the look of what a bodybuilder is to me. That x frame . Broad shoulders, lean waist and tree trunk legs . Arnold has been saying it for a few years to. I have an old as hell magazine in which he says about their distended midsections ruining the look. If they look like that on stage imagine what they look like off season .
Cameron_R
Arnold's just being a jellyfish. Because bodybuilders are 2x the size of him, when he was in his prime. I reckon there is something in this. It's only natural. You listen to ex-international cricketers talk about the state of the game these days: nothing is as 'pure' as it use to be. 20/20 is just not cricket etc etc Same with tennis - the game these days is all about huge serves and massive shots from the baseline, no finesse and no volleys. Same with Cycline - it's all about who has the best chemist, not who's the best cyclist. etc etc etc. Arny is probably remembering his golden days and with that lens on judges what he sees today. (either way, I agree with him)
Leeroid
I think the simplest explanation for the gut, as FUBU says, is food intake. These guys are eating massive amounts even when cutting down just to support all their muscle mass and that food's all got to sit somewhere. And these guys would be doing massive carb-ups too. They're 120kg of muscle and eating 500g of carbs would barely affect their glycogen stores.
ngapuhi strong
ive noticed for myself even when my abbs were on full show in late december ( well into my first proper bulk now) that when relaxed i almost had the same look that the pros get, now im not on hgh or peptides and dont eat 6k cal a day, am wondering in my situation if it could be from having been real real fat before that my transverse are weak and mabye stretched,? do the pros lose the gut once they retire

It is what it is, as bodybuilders get bigger you cant expect their waist line to get smaller really. Its a shame though, as people used to aspire to look like arnold, franco, serge just to name a few. Nowadays its just a freak show showing experiments, rather than art. Sounds gay when i put it like that. Does he even lift
