FellowshipOfTheRon
Hey guys, Decided going to compete this year in powerlifting (raw) haven't decided what comp exactly yet but will be later on in year. Had a couple of gear questions. Heard SBD Knee Sleeves are the way to go and legal for all comps so pretty much decided on these - any place in particular to buy from for best deal etc. (somewhere overseas or locally?) Can I trust the 'recommended tight fit' sizing or should I drop down a size from that even? Belts - is there a certain type of belt I should get? Eg thickness / width and all that crap. Do you have to try get a certain brand or something? Cheers!

I think the standard for belts is up to 15mm thick (maybe to wrong) with certain width and no padding. I would got for a 10-13mm thick belt with buckle rather than lever. Outbak make wicked belts (thats what I have) not sure if they are still in production though. raiselower also have schiek belt which my brother has and seems fine. maccaz
have tried a few belts and outbak by far my favorite, had optimass's old one but far too big for me now so sold it on heaps of other ones in shops are way too narrow kind of defeats the purpose may as well wear a regular pants belt (not srs)
teamfatboy
Was told today can't where outback belt in IPF anymore....this is true, at least for NZPF top-level comps - Nationals, North/ South Island Champs. You "might" get away with a non-IPF approved belt at a regional champs, and it shouldn't be a problem at a novice comp. Can't speak for CAPO or GPC, doubt they'd have an issue. The IPF has now mandated that only approved belts and sleeves can be used - and firms must pay the IPF a substantial fee, which smaller firms like Outbak don't/ can't. But, Outbak are a good brand. There's a list on the IPF website here: http://www.powerlifting-ipf.com/51.html If I were buying a belt now, I'd make sure it was 10-13mm thick, the same width (no more than 10cm side all the way round, not skinnier in front at the buckle, no padding at the back. For NZPF, the IPF rule book http://www.powerlifting-ipf.com/fileadmin/data/Technical_Rules/2015_V2_IPF_Technical_Rules_Book_2015_classic_rules_in_back_section.pdf has all the details.Don't waste your money on a cloth belt or anything with a Velcro closure - they're just not worth it.Sleeves? a lot of folk rave about their SBD's, others get results from other brands. You DO need to measure carefully for the SBDs, especially if you've got big calves. They are very thick and hard to put on if they're too tight. This is especially important because they're longer than e.g. Titan. Pseudonym
Skeletor
I use a 4 inch belt for squats but I deadlift in a 3 inch belt. Both 10mm I think. SBDs for sleeves. Went a size down from recommended but honestly could squeeze into the next size down even as guys with bigger legs than me overseas are doing so. Realtalk
Gpc u can wear any belt... They don't discriminate companies just because they don't/can't pay some kind of ransom. Gpc nz only cares about lifting.

Optimass
have broken two outback belts in the last 3 years (and one of those York softback belts). Lever belt only way to go - www.kiwi-strength.com - cheaper than importing and mine has done me well in the last year. I'm sponsored by KS but stand by the product. What I dont like about SBD is the length of the sleeve - I see some guys slipping 2 sizes smaller on withthe sleeve well up over the quads - kind of defeats the purpose of raw lifting when the main body of your quad is supported. just my opinion - SBDs are legal in all Feds and widely used. (Im Raw Plus in a 3 lift so wrap anyways - train only in sleeves). Highly recommend KS wrist wraps - I never used them prior to sponsorship but can say they are now an essential part of my comp kit. GyzzBrah
Im also doing a comp later in the year. Do they allow no gear for novices, i.e t shirt and shorts?
teamfatboy
Im also doing a comp later in the year. Do they allow no gear for novices, i.e t shirt and shorts?again, speaking only about NZPF comps, yep, t-shirt and shorts are fine for Novice comps. The only other requirement is long socks - for the deadlift. Rugby socks are fine. That's to guard against grazes on the shins from gnurling on the bar. T-shirts must have short sleeves, no tanks, long sleeves or singlets. In my experience, a plain t-shirt and shorts would be fine, with Chucks or trainers (no work boots). You don't have to have a belt. Check that you can hit depth in your shorts - I once spotted a guy competing in tight board shorts who ripped the arse out of them on the platform. Oh yeah, NZPF insists on briefs, not boxers, and no compression shorts. FellowshipOfTheRon

Leeroid
I got a pair of harris knee wraps and wrist wraps which got here after one week. Paid for cheapest shipping option.
Realtalk
I didn't get offered any shipping options, I assumed it would come with tracking. I would never spend $170 and not get a track number. Hopefully turns up. Deleted the post bro not really anyone's fault and sounded like I rubbish them when could still be coming.
FUBU
If you want cheap and good quality kneewraps, go here: http://www.sportsfuel.co.nz/flex-sports-elastic-knee-wraps.html. They are $39 and free shipping. Also, lifting belt is $39, I don't know what the qualities like, but I'm guessing cause it's the same brand it will be good: http://www.sportsfuel.co.nz/flex-sports-nylon-lifting-belt.html And the lifting straps are only $15 and they are bloody good quality and last a long time. http://www.sportsfuel.co.nz/sportsfuel-lifting-straps.html
