Looks like we will have the top four NZL competitors at this comp, so should be a tight battle. I'm also hearing rumours of a SM newbie who, should he decide to compete, could make some serious ripples!

U105's is anyones guess at the moment?

Anyone wanting to have a train on Saturday 13/3 @ 2.30pm, we will be doing a truck pull (with the event truck), farmers walk and the barand spanking new Atlas Stones.

Will be over at Onekawa, Napier. PM me for details if keen?

Looks like we've got a roadtrip from Auckland heading down to the Bay! Big Mac has proposed an Akld vs HB challenge to see where the home of SM is in NZL!

Billboard goes up on main road tonight, posters should be in all HB gyms by tonight. Again if anyone wants to try out the equipment a training session will be held in Onekawa Sat 20 & 27 March.

The Hawke's Bay vs Auckland challenge is on to determine NZL's Strongest Province! Any other regions are welcome to join in with a two man team, total points wins.

Akld is represented by Jono "Wookie" MacFarlane (Pro SM, 7th place USC, 2007 NZ Strongest Man, numerous Highland Games titles) & Dale "Mr Miada" Shepperd (2010 2nd place & 1st LW Counties SM , 2009 4th place NZ Strongest Man).

Hawkes Bay is represented by Nickoli "the Hammer" Hansen (Pro SM, 8th place USC, 2010 Counties Strongest Man, 2008/2009 NZL Strongest Man, 2009 Hawkes Bay's Strongest Man) and Sam "Heavy Duty" Magele (3rd place Counties Strongest Man, 2nd place 2009 NZ Strongest Man, 3rd place 2009 Hawkes Bay's Strongest Man).

Looks like a close battle given the types of events. Hawkes Bay FTW!

As is usual with a Strongman comp you never know who is going to turn up on the day. As far as I can tell from direct conversations it appears the following are competing:

Nick "the Hammer" Hansen (2xNZSM, Current HBSM & Counties SM, Pro SM, National PLing records & titles)

Jono "Wookie" MacFarlane (NZSM, Pro SM, Multiple Highland Games titles, National PLing records & titles)

Dale "Mr Miada" Shepherd (U105 Counties SM, top 5 NZSM)

Sam "Heavy Duty" Magele (2nd NZSM, top 3 Counties SM, top 3 HBSM)

Mark Tamanui (top 3 National PLing, South Island SM invational competitor)

Big Zane (yet to be seen - but strong as a house at training!)

Clinton "Shallow Squat" Haste (National PLing competitor)

Trevor "Trapfat" Walker (BBing titles, and allround strong guy in the gym!)

Also on his way down is Matt Rossiter (2xNZSM, International SM & Highland Games competitor, National & International PLing competitor, NZ PLing record holder), unsure if he will be competing, doing the public HG events, or just taken the photographs!

Referees & officials will include Phil Emmett (National & International PLing competitor, PLing record holder, PLing referee) and myself (blah, blah, blah! ), Steve "Mega" (HBSM & NZSM Competitor), Darcy Quirke (HBSM & NZSM Competitor) and Matt "Maddog" Jonson (HBSM Competitor, National & International PLing competitor, Multiple record & title holder PLing, PLing referee).

Apologies if I've missed anyone!

Looks like a good day coming up!

Had a crack at the Herc Hold as a bet(Prize being a Mac attack combo meal) and managed to hold it for 12 seconds before my grip gave out. 112kg each side I think.. :pfft: got my Mac combo though..lol

Good times Specter! I think the winning time was 1.04 yesterday so some practice needed! Although in saying that I still hold the NZ record & I drop them in training a few weeks back after 10 seconds! It's all dependent on setting the grip and a good pick.

If you ever want to train on any of the implements let me know?

Nate

This was extremely close, going into the last event there was only 1 point seperating the first three places. Hawkes Bay won the challenge for Strongest Province, but again was very close. As a consolation Jono took home the Field Events Champion title winning the shotput & placing first equal with Matt Rossiter on the Caber Toss.

A big thanks to the sponsors & Phil Emmett, Steve Wattie and Janine for all their help on the day.

Awesome times given the truck pull went slightly uphill (noted as the truck rolled backwards! ). Also only a second separating places 2nd & 3d and 4th & 5th.

Allied Security Overhead Medley:

1st Sam Magele 17.68

2nd Dale Shepherd 21.33

3rd Jono MacFarlane 26.17

Awesome to see so close here, 1st & 2nd within a fraction of a second and bodyweight deciding the tie for 3rd. Of note the NZ record is around 18.3 seconds so some fast times today!

Emmetts Hercules Hold:

1st Nick Hansen 1.04.59

4th Dale Shepherd 54.55

3rd Jono MacFarlane 13

4th Dale Shepherd 16

5th Mark Tamanui 24
