He wasn't wearing a bench jacket thing as wellWithout video, it's just another 'I rooted *insert lie here* chicks'I can't really see what there is to gain by lying on here except possibly making a few peolpe feel inadequate. That is a big number but I know it is possible so I say benefit of the doubt. Need to encourage this guy into some becnh comps. Even if was only half way down or bounced that's a big number at 89kg!! Even if was only half way down or bounced that's a big number at 89kg!!Theres genuine reasons for requesting a video. This forum is all about encouraging others involved in Powerlifting and bodybuilding. As already stated thats a big lift for someone relatively young who could be competitive at a high level and have huge potential.A video would serve several purposes namely; encouragement and motivation to other lifters.Additionally; quality feedback would be forthcoming from those with competition experience which could assist the lifter to even greater heights given his relative inexperience. rose
Theres genuine reasons for requesting a video. This forum is all about encouraging others involved in Powerlifting and bodybuilding.I don't think Mr Bench was denying the encouragement factor of seeing someone lift a weight unfathomable by some, but providing a good balance to the automatic negative or doubting responses. Many are quick to doubt and diss, sadly only a couple of posts providing either encouragment or advice re getting the guy into lifting. Personally, if I read some of the responses on the thread, I'd be thinking why the f*ck would I want to associate with a bunch of hating wankers?I hope the OP's friend finds some direction and support through other methods available to him. As Mr Bench noted, even if not a strictly legal bench, the guy might have great potential. The innuhnet makes it too easy to be an armchair arsehole.*Though I fully acknowledge the existence of trolls :grin:Without video, it's just another 'I rooted *insert lie here* chicks'vs.Great benching for a novice lifter! There's a Auckland Novice Comp in March sometime (maybe the 7th of March?).*(AKA I hate on you cos you bench more than me, how is this possible, waaa waaa waaa. Etc.) Not making excuses for them but I guess its human nature for individuals to doubt others ability because of their own shortcomings.Lets face it we`re in the age of video, (not the wire-less from my youth).People may doubt what you say but they will believe what they see."Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt." rose
Hmmm yes, the video age. I personally couldn't give a shit about the video age. Yeah there's some good uses for it, e.g. porn and bench technique vids  But there's a plethora of absolute shite as well.(Also not wishing to make excuses for others) not everyone has access to the gadgets, nor the time available to record, upload and share a video. If you're technically minded, sure, it's a breeze. But some people might spend half a day trying to get a video online  :pfft: (LOL no I'm not speaking from personal experience )Interestingly I note it's the people with a powerlifting background/focus who've written the encouraging/helpful posts on this thread.Even if it's a troll, I guess I just view info re how to get assistance/involved in lifting as more beneficial than negative taunts insisting someone prove their manhood to a few armchair critics.Someone else might see the helpful info and benefit from it.Someone who has potential might skip reading the thread because it's mostly full of shite. While I agree to a certain extent that it's human nature to doubt anothers ability, I believe that the "video age" has exacerbated it. Not only is it easier to doubt people and incite mob mentality from behind a screen, modern media in all its forms reinforces the contrast effect, and thus the shortcomings previously noted. severe
Damn right I want proof. Thats the cost of opening the mouth. Well the real world demands facts, supported with evidence. It as nothing to do with armchair critics and manhood. nice bait though.Hugs and cuddles come after the proof, not before, in my opinion. People have got to expect doubters, and rightly so. The world is full of bullshit arists, and just because it may logically serve no purpose to lie here, we need to let people know we aren't all believers in unsupported claims. As weight trainers, we don't accept the first claim to a supplements awesomeness, do we? We investigate, we compare, we want the truth based on recorded evidence, not just the word of one person. I see the same thing here. My doubt is a good contrast to those with faith in what was said. When evidence comes in, I will change my tune. I am not bagging those who support this claim as being truth. It isn't negative, it can also help motivate people into recording these feats.I am not a hater, I want to see this bench. The lifter sounds like he has some gift, and I am keen to observe. I am inspired by real life, not jealous of it. No two people can ever be the same. rose
My point was, rather than believing or doubting, posting information such as Danomyte, Dr Squat and Big Bench did, is more helpful than jumping on a 'must have proof' bandwagon. Their posts have positive spin off effects, someone else might see the novice comp info Danomyte posted and go along. If the original post was a troll, there's never going to be a bench vid. Repeatedly asking for one is pointless and doing so detracts from the helpful posts, in my opinion.Though I do have to question why anyone asking for advice should have to prove their friends lift to random unknowns on the innuhnet? Who cares if the guy can bench 180 or not? I certainly don't give a shit. If he's strong and interested in lifting, suggesting he get along to a novice comp or a gym capable of helping him is just better advice, in my opinion. If it's genuine, I reckon it's great his mate is trying to help him out.Calling bullshit is negative. Hugs and cuddles don't even come into it. rose
go on give us a hug RoseAgree with what you are saying re encouragement etc, and if he is genuine and goes to novice comp maybe somebody will video and post the clipIf someone is awesome I figure they'll surface on the scene sooner or later. I don't need proof of whether he can or can't lift that much cos I'm busy focussing on how to increase my lifts.I dont even consider the posts made by Dr Squat, Big Bench or Danomyte to be 'hugs and cuddles'. I think they're informative re options in the lifting scene and as such provide more value to a forum that, as Gasp noted, "is all about encouraging others involved in Powerlifting and bodybuilding." I agree with that statement, and therefore view information about how to get involved in the scene as a better approach to handling a thread such as this, irrespective of the legitimacy of the original post. The informative posts was energy better spent, they display insight and maturity. A derisive one liner with little to no information value - how do these add value to the site, the sport? Does that sort of shit put people off? I think it does. Should the people who find it offputting harden the f*ck up, or should they seek answers elsewhere, only coming to NZBB to talk utter shite?Generally speaking, my suggestion is to forget about the OP if you don't believe it, find something else you do believe to add value to.Hug? I don't do hugs :snooty: Hugs are whey and a personal affront to my ability to lift less than you :pfft:
teamfatboy
Nice to see that cut's working for you  Hugs are a personal affront to my ability to lift less than you :pfft:Bet you can't lift less than me :oops:But seriously, Rose is right - anyone who's good will eventually compete, and there's no hiding from three red lights. rose
Meh, think what you like Mr Sheep Troll  The reality is vastly different, you must have been neglecting the Hot Chicks thread recently What's so bad about voicing an opinion in support of the promotion of lifting on NZBB? Can you not handle it? Is it so fucking unheard of on this site that people take what was meant to be a "light-hearted opinion as some sort of impassioned diatribe with an underlying moral agenda"? Or is it cos I posted that quote about bbers being vain?
