Debszie
Im very new so I dont care about asking basic questions - what is the difference between a squat and a leg press? Is one using the bar and one on the machine? But both targeting the quads? Or....?
AlBundy
Squats are going from a standing position to a squatting position, it can be done with a barbell, dumbells or without weight. The legpress is a machine which you sit on and push with your legs. Both exercises work the quads, hams and glutes to an extent, however because squats often involve resting a weighted barbell on your back when doing squats it also strengthens the muscles which support your spine. Squats are alot harder than the legpress because they involve more balance and technique to perform.
Progress
Yup Debzie, what albundy said...Heres a couple of animations to clarify:Squat...http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/Qua ... Squat.htmlLegpress...http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/Qua ... Press.htmlThere are variations of these, but these are the basics as far as I know.
