HOT TOPIC: World's Strongest Boy

Recommended Posts

this site has some info about him....

I feel sorry for the young fella... 8 year olds should be out playing with other kids - not benching 180 pounds and studying college level maths.

Also - found another site that reckons the boy's dad fed him only on vitamens, minerals and some powdered food supplement. When his bodyfat got down to 1%, his coach had enough of the situation and quit. Here's the link:

Holy shit! 180 pounds!!!!!

I didnt see the doco, did anyone catch it?

I did hear on the radio that the kid has some kind of protein imbalance. Its actually classed as a disability. They said anything the kid does is like a workout, just walking around is a workout. They also said he probabley wont live all that long because of the disorder.

Unfortunately the doco spent a lot of time going through Richard's acheivements (and I have to admit, there were a lot of them to go through!). It left the "behind-the-scenes" stuff till the end, and didn't go into nearly enough detail to satisfy me.

Yes, Richard had been living on a liquid diet, with supplements and his father's special powder. We were told that critics thought the powder had probably contained steroids, but that testing had proved negative. And that was as far as it went... I wanted to know more about the testing.

The doco hinted at the father's domineering training style - "do this or else!" We never really got into detail, but it did say Richard's father never let him leave the house to play with other kids.

His father was noticeably absent throughout, and only at the very end did we learn why:

Richard's manager had confronted the father about the ingredients of the powder, and threatened to dismantle the whole empire he had helped them build around Richard. Dad then (allegedly) threatened to kill the manager. The manager then withdrew, the empire crumbled, and the family was left without income as Richard was the sole bread-winner.

Dad turned to drink, became increasingly violent, and is currently serving a jail-term for assaulting his wife. I don't think it mentioned whether he ever hit the kids.

The story does have a happy ending though - apparently Richard now has friends his own age to play with.

Overall, a good doco - probably enough to satisfy most people, but I think bodybuilders would want to know more!
