Decided to do a powerlifting comp middle of this year. The goal is an 800kg+ total.

Did 3 or 4 sets each of leg extension and hamstring curls after the squats.

 

Was first time giving wraps a proper go (without ripping them off after a single rep and deciding to never use again) and seemed alright although didnt wrap very tight. Wrapped from the top down which seemed to mitigate the back of leg pain. Struggled walking out the 240 and my wrists/forearms were quite sore from wrapping by that stage. Something ill just have to get used to.

Weight: 117kg yesterday 

Height: 184cm

 

Been going gym about 5 years although was fucking around with weights since age 17. Did a couple of minor PL comps last year that i enjoyed but by standards on this forum did pretty shit in. I hardly trained since october last year until the start of feb this year. I train 3-4 times a week now.

The 180x5 bench was a rep pb as was the 220x5 squats. Best comp total was mid 700s. One positive thing i noticed about the wraps was my knee didnt feel as sore as it usually gets although still bit tender today.

Not sure theres really much point training arms like this for powerlifting. Seems to put a lot of strain on shoulders, wrists, elbows and forearms.

 

Also noticed my closegrip bench has been pretty weak the last couple of sessions which im assuming is because my chest is still fucked from regular benching or something upper body is sore from squats.

 

In addition ive noticed both with conventional and closegrip bench i struggle to lift the weight off myself after ive done so for 1 or 2 sets of what for me is a heavy weight and it kills the reps i can do plus my shoulders and elbows. Never had this issue before to this extent.

 

Weighed 112.2kg today. Havent eaten or drank much yesterday (ate 500g cheese plus small serving of meat and fries) and eaten absolutely nothing yet today. Need to stop being a shit c*nt on weekends and keep diet consistent (actually eat).

Cheers bro. I do use wrist wraps for it though, forgot to mention that. Otherwise i find i get really sore wrists from bottom part of movement when going heavier.

 

Unavoidable really if benching to chest with hand spacing of about 30cm between hands but the wraps definitely help stop wrists getting hammered as much although i feel like it moves the problem to my elbows a bit.

 I have found that if I work on my wrist mobility then the wrist pain is lessened during close bench. Probably doesn't help that I use suicide grip lol

I think another good goal for you is to stay on track, not go off the rails, not be a dick to other members, and don't do anything to get yourself banned.

Havent lifted since sunday as have had sore back (because its fucked) and sore legs (from pinning). Also my beloved python has gone missing which is upsetting and I've  been driving around at night in the jungle looking for him so not getting enough sleep. Will be training deadlifts and shoulders tonight.

 

BW last 2 nights been 116.2kg and this morning was 114.2kg.

300 dead moved ok but compared to Realtalks reps looked harder like i was gonna die the whole time. Happy with how it went considering its my first attempt of reps at 300 and my pb from last year is 4 (albeit easier) reps.

 

Plan with deads is to go no higher than 300 but to build strength by increasing reps of 300 or volume of 260 depending if its a light or heavy day which is itself dependent on what i can be fucked doing. Strong program/10.

Was supposed to do chest (benching) friday or Saturday. Cbfd on friday as felt like a rest anyway. On Saturday had every intention of going gym but lay down on my bed after looking for my python in a wall after work and ended up sleeping from 4pm my time til 10am sunday. Guess i needed it.

 

Felt lethargic and weak whole of today with a sore back too and ate nothing today or yesterday so knew training most likely waste of time. It was. Weighed 114kg this morning. 113kg now.

3-5 sets 70kg cant remember reps or sets except first was 7 reps last was 3 lol.

 

Only trained that again coz my mate wanted to bench. Went gym with intention of doing squats. 

 

Weighed 112.5kg this morning too. Been slack with the food.

Probably Periactin? it's an antihistamine (so a hayfever drug) and one of the side effects is weight gain. Doesn't necessarily mean it increases appetite. Another side effect is drowsiness and lethargy so weight gain could be attributed to lack of physical activity rather.

 

there are actual drugs designed to directly increase appetite but unless your gf has AIDS or cancer I doubt she would have them lol

Coudnt get wraps right this time and fucked my wrist too on 230 set pushing against bar hard because of pain from wraps which im pretty sure is bad enough that it will set my bench back. Back has been bit fucked past few days too.

 

Strongly considering not bothering with any comps but will give it more thought over next few days as have already registered and paid  for comp in aus in early april plus paid gpc aus membership (like $145 all up) with intention of using it to qualify for gpc nz nationals. And bought soft suit.

 

But yeah those costs are negligible compared to cost of flights to that comp + accommodation (which i havent purchased yet) let alone cost of coming to nz plus taking time off work for that.

 

Know ill regret it though if i miss the aus comp and then sort my shit out and want to do nz nationals. Might just go casino later tonight or tomorrow and chuck $600 on red or black on roulette and if i win then do aus comp if not then cbf. Not gonna make money gambling but is quite good for making decisions i cbf making myself. I feel like it removes most of my perceived responsibility for the decision.

Cheers guys. Had pretty much decided to just give it a crack by early afternoon but then training tonight (arms) was so fucked had to just leave due to elbow pain even when going light. On the fence again but leaning towards not doing comps. 

 

Bought a welder the other day ($900 multiprocess inverter one plus welding helmet and consumables etc) and today bought various steel so going to have a play tomorrow (with flux core mig and also stick as dont have a gas bottle yet for sheilding gas).

 

Hopefully learn how to do that decently make some useful shit as its been something ive found annoying not being able to do myself. First thing ill try making is tall axle/chassis stands for my trucks as one needs fixing and one i have $5.5k of parts sitting in the lounge ready to fit to it. Hopefully after having a play my welds aren't too shit lol.
