Quest Protein Bars

Recommended Posts

With the $100 NZMuscle voucher to my mistake, I brought two boxes of Quest Nutrition protein bars: peanut butter supreme and chocolate and peanut butter

Looking at the marconutrients looked like a decent meal replacement snack (moderate fat <10g, moderate protein >20g and low sugars). But was curious what the taste would be like as i've had HPLC bars in the past and they tasted alright but had much more fat and carbohydrates from memory.

The texture of these bars was like cardboard! The chocolate and peanut butter was slightly a better texture but still terrible and I don't consider myself very fussy at all either!

Other than the texture, the amount of prebiotic fiber is 17g a bar! I had one bar early morning and my guts were a little unsettled and a bit of flatulence. Later that day I had another and had all kinds of issues on the toilet! I've got on idea why they put so much fiber in these bars, I'm guessing its acting as a binder or filler. I have add several others since then and had the same issues, as I thought my stomach might have been unsettled from the Chinese I had the night before the first time I tried them.

If your wanting a snack on the go when traveling etc and wanting to try these be sure as hell to have good access to a toilet!

Overall I wouldn't recommend them at all, taste like protein powder just being added to some average peanut butter or something a long those lines. You will be needing a few glasses of water if your wanting to shallow one of these!

Bugger. Shame to waste your voucher on a product you didn't like (on the other hand, I guess that's better than paying for it yourself...)

I haven't tried the Quest bars, but I've seen a lot of people plug them on Facebook. So it's good to see an unbiased review! Thanks for that, mate.

Personally, I think the HPLC bars are a lot like cardboard too, and sickly sweet. The only thing in their favour is that they've packed in a shitload of protein for a bar.

If you want a nice tasting, low-carb protein bar, try Horleys Carb-Less bars. Various flavours, but basically two styles - fudgy or crunchy. I like the crunchy ones best - they're a lot like rice bubble bars.

So what are all the wankers on social media talking about? Quest bars this, quest bars that... Fucking bullshit mate. I said to someone on FB the other day, that they would plug and endorse dogshit if it got them on the right side of certain people. Well they didn't like that did they. It's fucking embarrassing to say I'm apart of the lifting community and it's getting worse. It's bad because these cunts get positive reinforcement from all the sacks of shit who give them praise and anyone who doesn't is a 'hater'. I'm a hater, I fucking hate all these egotistical, low self esteem retards looking for gratification from others that they aren't a complete waste of oxygen because they go to the gym and own a smart phone with a camera. I can see how serial killers start, honestly!

i get a small bit of joy each time one of these people blocks me from commenting.

It only goes to show that after eating "a good clean diet" for long enough any shit tastes good!

Soooooo sad really!

You should be feeling sorry for these poor individuals that are now ruined an destined to appreciate crap only! Where is your sense of pity?

I'm definitely not part of that scene and it cracks me up hearing about all this sort of shit.

Do these people think it's a legitimate career and a path to make a good living? I just can't see the incentive for people to become the mouth piece of a food company, give them free advertising all for, at most, 60 bucks worth of product?

With social media getting the way it is logic is becoming more and more the less of the norm.

The problem is people looking up to particular facebook fitness athletes that have some form of intellectual impairment, and young people are so easily influenced despite them thinking otherwise. Case in point being "Gyzzbrah"

Yeah I guess I do see similar (but different) stuff in other scenes.

Young kids these days think likes on FB are more important than a university degree and views on YouTube are worth more than a well paying job.

Yes, they think it will bring them fame and fortune.

To be fair if you have a respectable youtube channel, and are getting a shit ton of views, it is better than a well paying job. But only if you can sustain it and keep the channel interesting. Which is part of the reason all these fitness wannabes are pushing so hard with social media, sadly most of them don't actually have a clue how to promote themselves properly so get no where.

Do u actually get paid for views on YouTube?

Yes, but not a lot. To give you an idea, the two Cirque du Soleil videos I put up are still being watched - 13,816 views over the last month, and that's earned me a whopping $12.19. Now maybe that could be optimised further with longer/more annoying ads, but the point is as Pyro says - you need a shit ton of views to get anywhere.

The issue really is that with all these people trying desperately to create content - whether that's Youtube videos, Facebook plugs, Instagram, whatever - very very few of them have anything worthwhile or orginal to say. Certainly not as much as their need to fill content demands. Hence the never-ending deluge  of motivational quotes.

Haha I got a box of the choc chunk? after reading all the fantastic reviews and yep never again.

Had 1 and took the rest to work, put them in the smoko room knowing there are a couple of guys that dont mind helping themselves to other peoples food and a month later there's still 8 in the box! :pfft:

I tried a sample at the fitness expo today. Very dry, and very chewy. Apparently they're improved if you microwave them for a few seconds - but surely that defeats the entire purpose of a tasty, portable snack. I didn't feel the urge to buy a box.

The Musclepharm combat crunch ones are quite good. Not as chewy or dry. I liked the Horleys mint ones I won. They were like rice bubble square with choc mint added into it so just like eating baking. Made my own at home last year and they were primo. Peanut butter, honey, oats, vanilla protein powder and almonds and walnuts. No bake no hassle and yum. High in calories though.
