Jump Rope Cardio

For someone limited on time (Kids, wife etc etc), limited on finance (Kids, wife etc), would jumping rope be a good place to start to do some interval cardio.

As time is a little limited, I find it hard getting to the gym more than 3 days a week (Which is my weight lifting days). I don't have a stationary bike or any other cardio device at home due to the above finance issue, hahahaha.

I'm currently between jumping rope and running for interval cardio. Problem with running is I have a bit of knee issues and would like to stay as far away as possible from the running if I can. The sprint part is normally not the issue, but the jogging part seems to hit the knees hard.

Can you even do interval with rope jumping, will you be able to put some intensity into it?

Yeah you can skip hard out or go more gentle. Do like alternate foot step hard out for 60 seconds or somtehing then stop and hop from one foot to the other for the low part of the interval. Or however you want to construct your intervals. It depends how good you are at skipping etc when i first started i would just skip for as long as I could until i tripped then have a smal amount of time off or practicing steps without a rope then jump back in untill i tripped again.

Skipping is a lot harder now than I ever remember it being at primary school. (I wonder if they still have the Jump Rope for Heart programme?) Anyway, I blame it on the quality of my rope. I'm sure it's not that I'm getting less coordinated. :shifty:

I was a tomboy at primary school and never even learnt to skip. When I got interested in boxing and martial arts in my teens I was so hopeless as I'd never even picked up a skipping rope in my life!

Well jumping rope is the best and simplest form of cardio. It is the highest burning fat work out. When you take jump blood goes down and when you go down blood goes up it is the reverse direction with a body movements. I do it and feel relax from tiredness and burden.
