banned from the gym for a week

Spent three hours last night in hospital, the doctor says that I have most likely injured/torn part of my pectoral muscle that attaches to my shoulder. So any ideas of that I can do in the meantime, I think running might be out of the question as well, but that will be the first thing that I might try?

A step class

Not much you can do bro for now - once you see a specialist they'll give you an idea of what is achievable in the short term.

need to be patient. Not a very good injury to earn.

Thanks Optimass

Now heres the problem, at this point I will not be seeing a specialist as the doctor last night could not pin point what went wrong. The doctor is assuming that it may be something that I did at the gym earlier in the week, now Im talking Monday or Tuesday and it only started to play up last night for some strange reason. If things dont get better then its off to the doctors again and I will be pushing to see a specialist.

Just need some ideas of what I could do at the gym even if its just some "light" cardio, as I am not allowed to use left arm for the next week. Have a great sunday....

I've been in the same spot as you until yesterday, was told to not to do upper body workouts for 2-3 weeks so all what I've been doing the past 2 weeks has been cardio (mostly on the cross trainer ) and legs/abs

so if you really want to go to the gym i guess you can go on the bike/treadmill or maybe go walk outside for your cardio.

and yeah like mike I thought you did something random at the gym to get the boot lol

Crazyfacials has it.... legs, and in particular leg machines, can be your friend :)

Sure, the tear (or whatever it proves to be) will stop you from deadlifting, and it's probably not advisable for bb squats or lunges, but...

Incline Leg Press

V-squat or Hack squat machines

Seated leg extension

Lying or seated leg curls

Abs.. loadsa abs !

Cardio - seated or recumbent bike (the one with legs out in front of you, not underneath).

Good luck with the diagnosis.

Whole lot of factors here, you need a proper diagnosis first and as Steak said, is there any bruising?

I would say start gently rotating the arm through a comfortable ROM to sustain blood flow to the area, as the nutrients supplied with blood flow help with recovering.

Did the same as you twice, took the physio's approach to 'rest it' which made it worse, and the sport doctors approach to 'movement and rotation' and the latter was fantastic.

thanks guys for all your help, but i might just do a light legs and some cardio. There is no signs of bruing, i do have some swelling to the shoulder. As the doctor has no idea of what i did there is no scan unless it gets worse. And i love going to the gym its my only time for myself in the day. Thanks again guys, oh and I have been told if it has not improved my tuesday then i am to go to my doctor to take the next step, so it may be a week or it could be longer....
